Don Lemon credits antidepressants for helping him cope with CNN firing, tells Tamron Hall
Don Lemon opened up about his struggle with depression after being fired from CNN over the summer, revealing that he turned to antidepressants to help him through the difficult time. In an interview with Tamron Hall on her show, Lemon shared that he sought alternative treatments for depression under the guidance of his doctor. He admitted, “I have suffered from depression. I take an antidepressant now.”
Following his dismissal from CNN, Lemon found solace in talk therapy and utilized guided therapy with prescription drugs prescribed by his doctor. He credited antidepressants for helping him navigate the challenges he faced after losing his job. Lemon’s new show on Elon Musk’s platform, X, was also abruptly canceled recently after he interviewed Musk as his first guest. The Tesla CEO reportedly was not pleased with how the interview went.
Despite the setback, Lemon remained resilient and shared his journey with Tamron Hall. Emotions ran high during the interview, with Lemon expressing gratitude for Hall’s resilience after her own departure from NBC News and MSNBC in 2017. Lemon clarified that Musk was never his boss, debunking claims of a list of wild demands he supposedly made to join X, calling it a distraction and insisting it was untrue.
Addressing reports of his alleged demands, Lemon dismissed them as baseless rumors and denied seeking an $8 million salary, a Cybertruck, equity, and veto power over the platform’s news policies. His agent and spokesperson refuted the claims as well. Hall praised Lemon’s handling of the situation as a shrewd business move and humorously remarked that she would have asked for “a fleet of Teslas” had she been negotiating with Musk.
In response, Lemon acknowledged the practice of negotiating in the entertainment industry, emphasizing the importance of advocating for oneself in such situations. He emphasized the need to speak up and make requests, even if they may seem extravagant, as it is a common practice in talent negotiations. Lemon’s candid discussion with Hall shed light on the challenges he faced and his resilience in bouncing back from setbacks.
Overall, Lemon’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of seeking help and support during tough times, whether it be through therapy, medication, or trusted individuals. By opening up about his experiences with depression and navigating career challenges, Lemon showcases the power of resilience and the willingness to seek help when needed. Lemon’s journey serves as an inspiration for others facing similar struggles, showing that with the right support and mindset, it is possible to overcome obstacles and emerge stronger on the other side.
