Mickey Rourke addresses dramatic ‘CBBUK’ exit after ‘losing it’ on castmates
Mickey Rourke called himself a “work in progress” following his dramatic “Celebrity Big Brother UK” exit.
The retired boxer, 72, admitted to having a “short fuse” on Sunday after getting kicked off the show over “inappropriate language” and “unacceptable behavior.”
The actor acknowledged, “I stepped over the line. I take responsibility for doing the wrong thing. I lost my temper, and I’ve been trying to work on it my whole life.”
Rourke went on to share his desire for “better self-control.”
He apologized and said he was “ashamed” of himself for “losing it for a few seconds there” on his castmates.
The “Expendables” star, notably, called Chris Hughes a “c–t” and ordered the “Love Island UK” alum to stop “f–king eyeballing” him ahead of his axing.
He also predicted “TOWIE” alum Ella Rae Wise would be an “old bag” one day.
In a confessional, Rourke continued, “I blame myself. I know it was my bad. I got a short fuse, and I know I upset a lot of people out there. I’m sorry for that.
“I’m ashamed of myself for getting that hot,” he added over the weekend. “I went over the line. I did wrong. I guess I can say I’m a work in progress.”
Rourke’s rep did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
News broke Saturday that Rourke had “agreed to leave” the reality series.
While the Oscar nominee was “offensive, threatening and aggressive” toward Hughes, 32, a source clarified to the US Sun, “It didn’t get physical and security nor producers did not need to intervene.”
The insider claimed that the former athlete “won’t be receiving all his money from ITV,” explaining that network executives cut him down £500,000 (about $654,100) due to his early departure.
Backlash over the Golden Globe winner’s behavior began last week when he made homophobic comments to co-star Jojo Siwa, including telling her she wouldn’t “be gay anymore” if he stayed in the house and “tied [her] up.”
He also vocalized his wish to “vote the lesbian out real quick.”
The singer, 21, replied, “That’s homophobic if that was your reasoning.”
Rourke, who was subsequently issued a warning from the show, did apologize to Siwa, who had broken down in tears over his statements.
The viral exchange led Rourke’s “Girl” co-star Bella Thorne to detail “humiliating” instances with him on the set of their 2020 movie via Instagram.
