Gwen Stefani and No Doubt to reunite for Coachella 2024 performance
Gwen Stefani was feeling “hella good” this weekend as she officially reunited with her band, No Doubt, on Saturday night during day two of the 2024 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California.
“It’s been nine f–king years!” the frontwoman exclaimed on stage as she was joined by bassist Tony Kanal, guitarist Tom Dumont, and drummer Adrian Young for the first time in nearly a decade. “I was thinking we should dust off some of the old s–t.”
The band stayed true to that sentiment throughout the duration of their 80-minute set, delivering a nostalgic show that left fans in awe. Social media was flooded with comments calling the performance “absolutely phenomenal,” “so iconic,” and “one of the best performances of the year.”
No Doubt took the stage in coordinating plaid ensembles, paying homage to their signature rock style from the ’90s. Stefani rocked a cropped top, matching bra and pants with zippers over black fishnet tights, complete with her famous slicked-back space buns and deep red lipstick.
The band performed classic hits like “Hella Good,” “Just a Girl,” “Spiderwebs,” “Underneath It All,” and “Don’t Speak,” with Stefani captivating the massive crowd with her high-energy stage antics. Surprise guest Olivia Rodrigo even joined in for a rendition of “Bathwater,” adding to the excitement of the night.
The set wrapped up with “Spiderwebs,” a fan-favorite from their 1995 album “Tragic Kingdom,” which received roaring applause from festivalgoers in the Southern California desert.
Prior to Coachella, No Doubt had not performed together since 2015. Stefani teased that they were planning to do something cohesive and nostalgic with their onstage looks, blending individual styles with a nod to the band’s iconic plaid aesthetic.
While there are no immediate plans for new music post-Coachella, Stefani expressed her excitement for the reunion, noting that the band’s chemistry on stage feels like “riding a bike again.” Stefani shared that she is open to anything in the future, but for now, dedicating time to the Coachella performance was a meaningful closure to their long-standing relationship since their inception in 1986.
In a candid moment, Stefani admitted to some regrets over the time she spent away from the band after starting a family with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale. Despite the challenges, Stefani shared that she is not ready to give up on her music endeavors just yet, emphasizing the importance of living her purpose and continuing to contribute through her art.
No Doubt’s performance at Coachella was a triumph that showcased the band’s enduring appeal and reaffirmed their status as one of the most iconic acts in music history. As they gear up for weekend two of the festival, fans can expect another unforgettable performance that celebrates the legacy of No Doubt and the timeless sound that has resonated with audiences for decades.
