Candace Parker Announces New Book, ‘The Can-Do Mindset’

Candace Parker is set to release her new book and PEOPLE can exclusively share the cover!

The former professional basketball player’s book, The Can-Do Mindset, will help readers learn how to cultivate resilience, follow their hearts and fight for their passions according to a press release shared with PEOPLE. It’s due out this spring from Get Lifted Books, a Zando Imprint.

Speaking about the title of the book, Parker, 38, revealed that the inspiration came from the nickname she was given as a child.

“’Can-Do’ became my nickname from an early age, and it’s become a mindset that’s served me through so many life phases, anchoring me through choppy waters,” she said in a statement. “It’s the mentality that empowered me to authentically show up, fight for opportunities and embrace the journey surrounded by the people I value most.”

She added, “With this book, I want everyone to know how they can lean into the Can-Do mindset themselves.”

Parker — who is one of the most decorated and celebrated women’s basketball players of all time — traces her own journey in The Can-Do Mindset to break down the recipe for success, teaching readers “how to live bravely, unapologetically and with purpose.”

“After being selected as the No 1. overall pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft by the Los Angeles Sparks, following a champion career at Tennessee where she led the Lady Vols to consecutive NCAA championships, Parker went on to become the first player to earn WNBA MVP and Rookie of the Year honors in the same season,” says the publisher.

After two seasons with her hometown team Chicago Sky, where she won her second WNBA title in 2021, Parker signed with the Las Vegas Aces ahead of the 2023 WNBA season and won her third championship before announcing her retirement in 2024.

Away from the court, Parker has become an inspiring figure in the LGBTQ+ community. The star has been married to former basketball player, Anna Petrakova, 40, since 2019.

The couple share sons Airr Larry, 2, and Hartt Summitt, born May 21, 2024. Parker also shares daughter Lailaa Nicole, 14 with ex-husband Shelden Williams.

“Candace Parker has been a trailblazer on and off the court, inspiring us all with her resilience, authenticity and purpose-driven life,” said John Legend, Mike Jackson and Ty Stiklorius of Get Lifted Books. “We are thrilled to work with Candace and present her extraordinary book to readers from all walks of life. The Can-Do Mindset delivers a playbook for how we can all achieve greatness on our own terms.”

“From the start, Candace turned her childhood nickname, Can-Do, into a daily mantra that helped her overcome enormous physical and mental hurdles while embracing her vulnerability,” the release states. “In her first-ever book, THE CAN-DO MINDSET, Candace breaks down the ultimate recipe for success, drawn from the experiences that made her a better person and player.”

The Can-Do Mindset goes on sale on June 3, 2025 and is available for preorder now, wherever books are sold.
