Brad Pitt requests Angelina Jolie’s NDAs in latest legal action
Brad Pitt has taken a legal step to compel Angelina Jolie to disclose the number of non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) she has required her staff to sign. This move comes after Jolie accused Pitt of using a restrictive agreement to “control” her during negotiations over their French vineyard, Château Miraval.
The former Hollywood power couple has been entangled in a bitter divorce and custody battle for several years, with their winery at the center of the dispute. Jolie recently made shocking allegations of physical abuse against Pitt, claiming that he had subjected her to more than one instance of abuse, including a private flight incident in 2016.
She also asserted that Pitt had pressured her to sign an NDA as part of a deal involving the sale of Miraval, a request she deemed as an attempt to control her. In response, Jolie decided to sell her stake in the vineyard to Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler instead of Pitt, leading to further animosity between the ex-spouses.
In a legal filing on Friday, Pitt’s lawyers requested Jolie to disclose any other NDAs she may have entered into with third parties, including personal staff members. The motion aimed to uncover whether Jolie had imposed similar confidentiality agreements in other aspects of her life, which could shed light on her stance regarding Pitt’s NDA request in the Miraval sale.
Jolie’s attorney, Paul Murphy, rebuked Pitt’s efforts by dismissing the equivalence between standard NDAs and Pitt’s alleged attempt to cover up abuse. Murphy emphasized Jolie’s desire for peace and separation after enduring years of turmoil in her relationship with Pitt.
The legal wrangling between the former couple intensified as Jolie claimed in recent filings that Pitt had been abusive towards her before the 2016 plane incident that prompted their divorce. Jolie’s legal team sought to release communications showing that Pitt had imposed stringent conditions on the sale of Jolie’s share of Miraval, including a demanding NDA.
A friend of Pitt countered Jolie’s claims by stating that the legal dispute centered on the agreement regarding the winery and family home, not past incidents of abuse. The friend highlighted the standard nature of NDAs in business transactions and questioned Jolie’s objection to such agreements, especially considering her lawyers’ proposal of a similar clause during their divorce proceedings.
Amidst the legal drama, a Luxembourg court intervened by freezing 10 percent of Shefler’s shares in Miraval, effectively granting Pitt majority ownership. The ongoing legal battles are expected to continue, with a hearing scheduled for May 16 to address the disclosure of relevant information. A full trial is not anticipated to occur this year.
The contentious legal dispute between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie underscores the complexities of divorce, custody, and business dealings among high-profile individuals. As the legal saga unfolds, the public eagerly awaits the resolution of the long-standing conflict between the once-revered Hollywood couple.
