Viola Davis and Julius Tennon have a happy marriage — and some differing views on cleaning around the house!
When Davis, 59, and Tennon, 71, appeared on the Tuesday, April 22 episode of First We Feast’s Hot Ones Versus to promote their new action movie G20, the couple discussed Tennon’s passion for keeping things tidy.
After it was suggested “there might be a difference in who does chores” in the relationship, Tennon began clapping. “He’s a pain the a–,” Davis said of Tennon’s cleaning, before revealing that he used to use the vacuum too early in the morning for Davis’ liking. “When we first met, several months into us dating and falling in love and doing all that, you would vacuum at 6 a.m. in the morning,” she recalled.
“That’s because you like to sleep late,” Tennon responded, to which Davis replied, “Julius, it’s 6 a.m. in the morning. It was 6 a.m. in the morning, Julius.”

Davis and Tennon first met in 1999 on the set of the CBS series City of Angels. The pair got married in 2003 and founded JuVee Productions, through which they co-produced G20 together, in 2011. The actors and producers share one daughter, 14-year-old Genesis.
During Hot Ones Versus, Tennon explained that the early-morning vacuuming incident “only happened once.”
“You want to know why it happened once?” added Davis. “Because I got up and I said, ‘You need to put that s— away.’ “

“I appreciate it; that’s why we have a clean house,” she continued. “Because if it were left up to me I would be a mess, right?”

Davis and Tennon speak frequently during media appearances about the love and respect they have for each other. When PEOPLE chatted with them at the March 27 premiere of G20, the couple said they don’t keep to any specific set of rules in their marriage.
“We have so much respect for one another and then we both kind of have the same synergy,” Tennon said on the red carpet. “So it just flows with us.”
G20 is streaming on Prime Video now.
