Savannah Guthrie Has a Hilarious Response When Asked if She Has Veneers

Savannah Guthrie isn’t quite sure what veneers are — but she says she takes good care of her teeth nonetheless.

In a red carpet interview with Parade on Friday, June 6, the 53-year-old Today co-host was answering some rapid-fire questions when she was asked if she has veneers — custom-made shells often made from porcelain that fit over the front surfaces of teeth to improve their appearance.

Guthrie responded with a question: “What is that, like, braces?”

“Well, I did Invisalign,” she continued, referring to clear braces made from trays. “What are veneers?”

“I guess no. I probably need them, whatever they are,” she joked before finishing the interview.

“I gotta go — getting veneers!” Guthrie said to laughs as she walked away.

According to the Mayo Clinic, veneers are one of the most common cosmetic dentistry treatments, and doctors put them in place by permanently removing some enamel from a person’s natural teeth to roughen the teeth surfaces and help veneers stay in place.

GQ reported last year that veneers are becoming increasingly popular among celebrities — including some stars who have been candid about having the procedure done to fix imperfections, like Tori Spelling, Bachelor alum Kelsey Anderson, JoJo Siwa and Cardi B.

According to the outlet, some composite resin veneers can cost about $250 per tooth and last around five years, while porcelain veneers can go for as much as $2,500 per tooth and last much longer.

Ahead of her NBC morning show’s special Mother’s Day segment last year, Guthrie, along with her co-hosts Hoda Kotb, Jenna Bush Hager, Dylan Dreyer and Sheinelle Jones spoke to PEOPLE about their close bond — and shared one unforgettable moment from a hangout session that ended with Guthrie losing a tooth during a night out at the bar.

“You lost your tooth? Savannah, are you joking?” Bush Hager, 43, asked during the hilarious interview. “I feel the way I did with the Polar Plunge. I feel deceived. I feel deceived by you. She tried to blame the wildness on me!”

Guthrie didn’t share the specifics about how the tooth loss occurred. However, in recalling what happened to her tooth, she admitted, “I don’t know, it’s still at the Pebble Bar,” referencing the New York City hotspot located in Rockefeller Center.

“You lost it at the bar?” Bush Hager asked, to which Guthrie responded, “I guess.”
