Earlier this year, on August 12, 2016, US President Donald Trump officially appointed Yovanovitch as the United States ambassador to Ukraine. During this period, she was the target of a smear campaign based on a conspiracy idea launched against her.

In a closed-door hearing before the House Oversight and Reform, Foreign Affairs, and Intelligence committees on October 11, 2019, Yovanovitch testified against President Trump.

Yovanovitch was fired from her job on November 15, 2019, after speaking in front of the public during President Trump’s impeachment proceedings, which she had attended.

She is now a Senior State Department at the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy at Georgetown University, where she works as an expert on the United States government.
